    100 Days of Yoga

Is anyone doing this ‘challenge’? I kind of made this up for myself and putting it ‘out there’ so I commit to 100 days of yoga practice. The practice can be anything from quiet morning meditation to flowing vinyasa asana practice to being fully present with baby through an entire day (i.e. not floating off into space…not an easy one).

    Day 1 – Monday, September 15, 2014

Today I practiced on that mat while baby was napping mid-day. Only 20 minutes in duration however that was enough to demonstrate to self that I am so scattered lately. In mind. I worked the summer when baby turned 8 months. Made 3 trips to New York and 2 of the trips with family. Now planning for next work trip abroad. It will be a long journey and I think I’m feeling a bit of anxiety with all of the preparation – both for work and especially with regard to flying such a long way with the baby. A lot of the stress I could feel in my body, and of course in mind, reflected¬†in the quality of my sleep. Time on the mat was like the SPACE BETWEEN today. Very much needed, and I am very much grateful.

    Day 2 – Tuesday, September 16, 2014

My Mom’s birthday today! So naturally it was a super-busy day preparing gift which was a huge white photo frame with pics of grandbaby and grandma ūüôā And of course getting self (heheh, barely) and baby ready for the birthday lunch outing 40 mins away while somewhat sticking to his usual eat/play/nap schedule. ¬†Somehow it all worked out though not without noticeable tension in my jaw in neck by the end of the day.

THE PRACTICE: This evening’s¬†yoga was a definite OM. ¬†I am so grateful for gg, best partner and dad.

    Day 3 – Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Up before 7am and already on the laptop to reply to some work emails. Hopefully, this makes ‘space’ for yoga mat practice later! ¬†Still drink half a cup of coffee daily though it is more habit than need.

THE PRACTICE: ‘Flowed’ clumsily but gratefully through¬†a mat practice from 1:30-2:30pm while baby napped. Theme today is HIPS! Owch, they are a bit tight, as are gluteals. The unfoldment begins. And through the practice when in Hanumanasana, I thanked my legs and my feet for carrying me.

Babies are so innocent and organic. Can I find / return to this organic, non-judgmental nature as I knock out the walls of my matrix, over the 100 days of yoga and beyond?

    Day 4 – Thursday, September 18, 2014

The days are so full! Upon waking at 7am a jumble of ideas, inspirations and goals to accomplish flood my brain with TO DO lists. By 7pm, somehow the day has gone ‘pear-shaped’, and in response to how I feel about this, I’d light-heartedly say: “HAHAHA Mommy for having any expectations and¬†plans!”. It is in this approach that life can be more fun and manageable on a daily basis. By surrendering to the ‘this too shall pass…’, knowing the second half of this¬†goes something like: “…and then there will be another task to attend to”. It’s endless. And so are my choices for how I will react – or not – to stresses and exhaustion that arise in waves throughout the hours, days and months. Isn’t life DELICIOUS?!

THE PRACTICE: no mat practice today.

    Day 5 – Friday, September 19, 2014

Tired, thirsty, distracted. Feels like I’m scraping through the day.

THE PRACTICE: 15 mins vinyasa, discovering how tight hips, back, hamstrings and calves can become in a matter of days with no practice. Need a rest day…heheh.

    Day 6 – Saturday, September 20, 2014

A much needed 45 minute mat practice! Early on in the practice, two of my fav poses:Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana (standing split) and Ardha Chandrasana (half moon). Hip openers, inversions and a few twists…ahhhh.

Afternoon practice was somewhat of a ‘militant soul-less scripted’ practice – though good ‘workout’ :-// At Mystic.

    Day 7 – Sunday, September 21, 2014

Another class where the practice, for the teacher, seemed about the teacher. She flowed through her teaching on her own mat, didn’t offer¬†modifications and went into savasana (corpse pose) at the end of class, with the students! ¬†In any case, the one-hour practice had it’s benefits…plus the music was good. Hmm.

    Day 8 – Monday, September 22, 2014

    No practice today.  BooHoo.

    Day 13 – Saturday, September 27

Met Sandra¬†at Starbucks this AM…yay! Walked with baby around 8:30am. Was good to see her, catch up and get out and about nice and early! Got a lot of errands and produce shopping done as well! ¬†It seems that life and schedules and plans and brain is NON-STOP. Since baby was born. I feel so scattered.

THE PRACTICE: Purify (Agni!) yoga for 25 mins mid-day then baby woke up and had to roll up the mat!
