Treat Yourself to a Homemade Magnesium Foot Glow!

Why shouldn’t Mom have soft, smooth feet like baby?!

This is a simple yet five-star spa recipe for a very moisturizing and exfoliating foot (and body) scrub that is easy and quick to make at home.  Definitely use this on yourself to luxuriate in the shower or bath!  And with Mother’s Day coming up, why not make one for a Mom you know and love?

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup of epsom salt

    • 1⁄4 cup olive oil or almond oil

    • 1 teaspoon liquid castille soap (optional, makes texture slightly smoother)

    • 10-15 drops of essential oils (or more- optional)

    Instructions

In a small bowl, mix all ingredients using a wooden spoon.  Then add essential oils – drop by drop as they can be concentrated and go a long way – until desired scent is achieved.

Store in airtight container, such as a large sealable apothecary jar, and use a teaspoon sized amount to exfoliate feet or body as needed.

Rinse after use and bask in the glow!

    About Epsom Salts

Known scientifically as hydrated magnesium sulfate, Epsom salt is rich in both magnesium and sulfate. While both magnesium and sulfate can be poorly absorbed through the stomach, studies show increased magnesium levels from soaking in a bath enriched with Epsom salt! Magnesium and sulfate are both easily absorbed through the skin. Sulfates play an important role in the formation of brain tissue, joint proteins and the proteins that line the walls of the digestive tract. They stimulate the pancreas to generate digestive enzymes and are thought to help detoxify the body of medicines and environmental contaminants.

Researchers and physicians suggest many health benefits from proper magnesium and sulfate levels:

    • Flushed toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.
    • Relieved stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.
    • Reduced inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.
    • Improved oxygen use.
    • Improved absorption of nutrients.

All this from a bath, hurray! While there are many different brands of Epsom salt, they are all the same product chemically, and can be found at most drug stores.
